This project really transformed an unused region of the client’s backyard into a practical and fun area for BBQing on the grill and entertaining guests. It was a constant, time-consuming burden to the home-owners because thistle and various weeds would sprout up all year long. This occupied countless hours of every weekend and an eye-sore when guests were over using the pool. When I suggested installing sod in this region the client asked, “Can we add a horseshoe pit game to the area?” We love collaborating with our clients, and this idea was a perfect addition to add recreation to style.
Construction Process
This area first needed to be heavily weeded, tilled, and raked over to clear all of the previous weeds and organic debris. After heavily tilling and raking the area free of existing weeds, the area was correctly graded and sod was installed piece by piece. Next, we measured out an appropriate distance for horseshoes, constructed a simple pit area, added sand, and voila! Now the only maintenance needed is a simple cut with the lawn mower which takes a quarter of the time compared to weeding every week.
